parkes_misano_ssp_race_news.jpgBroc Parkes (Kawasaki Motocard.com) took his first win of the year in fine style, taking the lead by overcoming Chaz Davies (Yamaha ParkinGO) who would eventually finish sixth today.

A spirited second in the 22-lap race was former Misano race winner, Fabien Foret (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) with Sam Lowes (Parkalgar Honda) blasting his way to third, ahead of David Salom (Kawasaki Motocard.com) and long term second place runner, Ilario Dionisi (Honda Italia Improve FG).

In the championship standings, Parkes now leads Davies by five points, 85 to 80, with Davies' team-mate Luca Scassa third on an unchanged 70 points. Foret has 56 points, Salom 55.

464_r06_checa_finish.jpgCarlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) took his second win of the day, and his eighth of the year, to extend his championship lead over second place race finisher Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia). The first running of the race was nullified when Marco Melandri crashed and his machine lay in a dangerous position on the racetrack, leading to 14-lap race, which determined all the places and full points.

 

Third place was fought over to the last possible moment, with Noriyuki Haga (Pata Aprilia) and Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike) third and fourth respectively. Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike) crashed out, but Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) kept it upright to take fifth.

In the championship, Checa has 245, Biaggi 173, Melandri 150, Laverty 123 and Haslam 106.

fimxsito.jpgOn the occasion of the San Marino Round of the 2011 FIM Superbike World Championship in Misano (ITA), and with reference to the interviews recently published on some motorsports web sites, FIM President Vito Ippolito reiterated what has already been stated several times:

Any complete motorcycle model derived from series production, homologated or not for the FIM Superbike / Supersport / Superstock is not eligible and will not be accepted in the FIM Grand Prix World Championship classes.

034_p07_checa_action.jpgSpain's Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) set a quickest lap of 1 minute 59.183 seconds in the Saturday morning second qualifying session as the times started to tumble in the hot temperatures.

With the top 16 going on to this afternoon's Tissot-Superpole, second place went to another Ducati rider, Effenbert-Liberty Racing's Jakub Smrz while Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia Racing Team) moved closer into third just behind the top 2.

Kawasaki Racing Team's Tom Sykes continues to appear at the top of the timesheets, the British rider in the fourth slot ahead of fellow Brit Leon Camier (Aprilia Alitalia Racing Team) and an impressive Maxime Berger (Supersonic Ducati).

With the top 12 covered by seven-tenths of a second, Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) headed his fellow Italians Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia SBK Team) and Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki Alstare) in seventh.

035_p07_metcher_action.jpg21-year-old Australian Jed Metcher will start from pole in this afternoon's Superstock 600 European Championship round at Motorland Aragon. The MTM-RT Motorsports Team Yamaha man grabbed the pole from Italian Dino Lombardi (Martini Corse Yamaha) in the final seconds of qualifying, while the international flavor continues on the front row with the remaining two slots going to Frenchman Stéphane Egea (ASPI Yamaha) and Michael van der Mark (Ten Kate Junior Team Honda) of the Netherlands.

Points leader Romain Lanusse (MRS Yamaha Racing France) will set off from row 2 with sixth quickest time with the promising Italian Riccardo Russo (Trasimeno Yamaha) in eighth, while American Austin DeHaven (Trasimeno Yamaha) came off and was taken to the Medical Centre for a check but is OK.

049_p07_melandri_action.jpgMarco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) put in a great performance in qualifying to take his first ever Tissot-Superpole success and also give Yamaha its first top grid slot of the season.

Melandri set a new track best of 1 minute 57.634 seconds in Superpole 3 and he will start Sunday's 20-lap races with his great rival Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia Racing Team) as his closest challenger. Biaggi's team-mate Leon Camier and championship leader Carlos Checa (Althea Racing) complete the front row.

Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team Superbike) put in a late charge to fifth, with Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Superbike Team), Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki Racing Team) and Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia SBK Team) all joining him on row two.

003_p07_parkes_action.jpgBroc Parkes (Kawasaki Motocard.com) booked his ticket for a repeat win after Misano tomorrow with another terrific performance in today's World Supersport final qualifying session. The Australian ran almost four-tenths quicker than his Spanish team-mate, the also on-form David Salom.

A fighting third place went to Britain's Sam Lowes (Parkalgar Honda), while fellow-Brit Chaz Davies completed the front row for the Yamaha ParkinGO team.

Erstwhile championship leader Luca Scassa (Yamaha ParkinGO) could only manage fifth place and a row 2 start, with Massimo Roccoli (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) grabbing sixth place in the final stages from Fabien Foret (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) and James Ellison (Bogdanka PTR Honda).

061_p07_petrucci_action.jpgDanilo Petrucci (Barni Racing Team Ducati) laid down the gauntlet to his fellow STK1000 runners by setting a scintillating time of 2 minutes 01.161 seconds, almost one full second clear of the next man, Lorenzo Zanetti (BMW Motorrad Italia Superstock). Zanetti was a fraction ahead of points leader Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing Ducati) in third, while the all-Italian front row will be completed by the returning Niccolò Canepa on another Ducati, the SS Lazio Motorsport version.

A second BMW, that of Sylvain Barrier (BMW Motorrad Italia Superstock) notched up fifth place to head row 2, with Andrea Antonelli (Lorini Honda) and South African Sheridan Morais (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) the top runners on Japanese four-cylinder machinery.

057_p07_metcher_action.jpgJed Metcher (MTM-RT Motorsports Yamaha) was the fourth different winner in the first four rounds of this year's exciting Superstock 600 European Championship. The Australian, now firmly in second place in the table, finished just over one second ahead of points leader Romain Lanusse (MRS Yamaha Racing France), but the Frenchman is now 20 points clear in the table.

The final podium slot went to Belgium's Gauthier Duwelz (MTM-RT Motorsports Yamaha), who held off a fierce challenge from a trio of riders on Yamaha and Honda machinery.

011_p07_giugliano_action.jpgDavide Giugliano (Althea Racing Ducati) took his third win in the 1000cc Superstock category this year but he had to work hard out front for it. He was pushed in the final sector of the 12-lap race by second place rider Lorenzo Zanetti (BMW Motorrad Italia Superstock), who tried on the final two laps to pass the Roman rider, after Davide had made a mistake and lost his small race-long advantage.

Danilo Petrucci (Barni Racing Team) went third, winning a sprint to the line from Niccolò Canepa (Lazio MotorSport). The top four were well ahead of fifth place man, Sylvain Barrier (BMW Motorrad Italia Superstock).

In the championship, Giugliano has 95 points and Petrucci 69, one place ahead of Zanetti on 68 points.

192_p07_melandri_box.jpgMarco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike) took his second win of the year after leading when it really counted as his rival Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) made a small slip a few laps from the end. The margin of victory from Marco to Max was 1.5 seconds.

Leon Camier (Aprilia Alitalia) was a strong finishing third, and Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Superbike) took fourth place in a close fight with Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team Superbike). Noriyuki Haga (Pata Aprilia) and top finishing local Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki Racing Team) followed close behind those two.

Championship leader Carlos Checa (Althea Racing) fell while in a potential podium position, on lap eight. He had just set the fastest lap of the race and was pushing on to try and stay with the leading riders.

018_p07_davies_action.jpgChaz Davies (Yamaha ParkinGO) won his third race of the year and took the championship lead after a dramatic race at Motorland. Sam Lowes (Parkalgar Honda) was a close second but was unable to get into the slipstream of Davies to mount a last lap pass.

David Salom (Kawasaki Motocard.com) and Massimo Roccoli (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) finished third and fourth respectively, in a race where two top contenders fell out of leading positions.

Pole man Broc Parkes (Kawasaki Motocard.com) and Luca Scassa (Yamaha ParkinGO) no scored after separate crashes near the end, leaving the championship table with Davies on 105, Parkes on 85, Salom on 71 and Scassa on 70.

326_r07_biaggi_action.jpgMax Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) took his long awaited first win of the 2011 season after an immaculate display of front running, heading Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike) by 4.809 seconds, after Melandri ran off track at one point, with a few laps to go.

Local rider and championship leader Carlos Checa (Althea Racing) completed a damage limitation exercise after his fall in race one, scoring third in the second 20-lap contest, from the impressive Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki Alstare). Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki Racing Team) was a home-town top five finisher, from Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Superbike) and Noriyuki Haga (Pata Aprilia).

In the championship, Checa now has 261 points, Biaggi 218 and Melandri 195.
