493_r13_checa_guintoli.jpgIt took Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) some time to get on terms with the long time leader Sylvain Guintoli (Effenbert Liberty Racing Ducati) but he made a final pass that delivered him his 15th win of the year with only a couple of laps go.

Third went to Tissot-Superpole winner Jonathan Rea (Castrol Honda), while a remarkable comeback from 17th on the grid meant that Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) overhauled the ever-improving Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki Racing Team) to take fourth place after 22-laps of pure effort. Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) faded in the later stages to go sixth, while a brilliant ride from privateer Maxime Berger (Supersonic Ducati) put him seventh.

516_r13_checa_finish.jpgThe Althea Racing Team is already looking to the future, with the announcement of its plans for the 2012 racing season. As was logical, after Carlos Checa's stunning season, which saw him take the 2011 Superbike title, the renewal with Team Althea Racing has been officially confirmed and will allow the Spanish Champion to stay with the team that has helped him reach the top step of the podium on 15 occasions this season. Team Althea Racing, managed by Genesio Bevilacqua, will continue to work with Checa in 2012 and, on board his Ducati 1198, he will defend his World Championship title.

Checa will also have a 'new' team-mate in the form of Davide Giugliano. This season Giugliano earned the title of Superstock 1000 Champion with Althea Racing. An extremely interesting opportunity that will see the two champions in the same box, as they both participate in the 2012 World Superbike Championship. Both the team and the riders are very pleased with the decision that has been reached and now attention turns to the organisation of the winter testing programme and planning for 2012.

Genesio Bevilacqua, General Manager of Althea Racing: 'We have finally reached an agreement with Ducati that was very important for the continuation of our long term plans. Things took a little longer than expected but fortunately we have resolved these problems in a very positive way, with the help of Ducati and the good sense of all involved. I hope this announcement clears up any doubts as I know some wrong information has come out in the press in recent days. Everything is now in place and to be able to announce this at the end of the final race of the 2011 season allowed us to conclude an extremely memorable season, for us, for Ducati and for Carlos in the best possible way. Now what we must do is continue to fight as we have this year, even more so as we will surely be penalized as far as weight on our bike is concerned. We are extremely confident: Carlos and Davide are very determined, the team is more united than ever before and we are sure we can provide the riders with all necessary support. Particular thanks goes to Claudio Domenicali, and to Ducati for deciding to support our team in a difficult period such as this. We will do our best to repay this trust, as we have done this season, as we strive to repeat the kind of success that sacrifice and passion have allowed us to achieve this year.'

047_t01_laverty_action.jpgWith the end of the season having come along only two days previously, real preparations for the 2012 season got underway in unofficial testing at the Parkalgar circuit in Portugal, with some new rider and team line-ups in evidence. There were only six hours of track time available for the riders, from 9am to 3pm, making it a very intense session for all.

The Pata Racing team fielded new Aprilia signing Eugene Laverty on a works RSV4R for the first time, while BMW Motorrad Motorsport had not only a new rider in Marco Melandri, but a partial race version of their 2012 S1000RR model. Both Leon Haslam and Melandri had one new bike and one 2011 model to test in what were perfect warm and sunny conditions. Laverty ended up fastest of all after finding a good set-up even after only a few hours on the V-four machine. The new look Kawasaki Racing Team set-up featured existing 2011 riders Joan Lascorz and Tom Sykes, with Lascorz second fastest. New BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike rider Michel Fabrizio was also out, lapping alongside re-signed team rider, Ayrton Badovini, on 2011 machines.

With his new team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama not present yet Castrol Honda's Jonathan Rea has no less than four CBR1000RRs at his disposal, and he will have a new 2012 model Honda on the way sometime soon as well. He did laps on all four 2011 bikes in the garage and like many of his

peers he also tried out some new Pirelli tyre solutions. Effenbert Liberty Racing Ducati put their new rider Maxime Berger out on this big twin, and gave Canadian rider Brett McCormick track time as well.

In WSS, the Hannspree Ten Kate and Kawasaki Lorenzini by Leoni teams were present, with Lorenzini testing Sheridan Morais and Joshua Day, Ten Kate fielding Broc Parkes and Michael van Der Mark. Santiago Barragan also lapped on a Provec Motocard.com Kawasaki.

img_0120.jpgThe Effenbert-Liberty Racing Team has renewed its contract with Sylvain Guintoli for the 2012 season and the Frenchman will now line up again for the Czech Republic-based team for a second successive year.

The decision was made following the excellent results achieved by Guintoli during the second half of the World Superbike Championship, once he had recovered from the terrible crash he suffered during the first round in Phillip Island. Despite everything he still managed to conclude an excellent sixth place in the final standings. The team and rider are both very pleased to continue the adventure together, convinced that ,in the next season, they can further improve performance.

Immediately after signing the contract for 2012, Guintoli declared: "I am very happy to stay in the Effenbert-Liberty Racing Team, I felt very well both from the technical and from the human point of view and now I have developed a very good feeling with the Ducati that suits my riding style well and is giving me great satisfaction. I am very motivated and am sure that next year we will improve. It will be a great season!"
