WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 20. Oktober 2011 report Geschrieben 20. Oktober 2011 Australian Jed Metcher (MTM-RT Motorsports Yamaha) secured his first European Superstock 600 title at Portimao on Sunday, the tenth and final round of the season for the close-to-production spec class. Metcher snatched the title with 150 points, 12 points ahead of Joshua Day (Revolution Racedays Kawasaki) in second place and Michael van der Mark (Ten Kate Junior Honda) in third. Metcher took the lead in the standings at the Nurburgring and defended this position right up to the grand finale where a fourth place finish was sufficient to comfortably claim the title on his YZF-R6. The Australian scored seven podiums in ten races before concluding the season at the Portuguese track. MRS Yamaha's Romaine Lanusse led the championship from the second race of the season in Monza but an unfortunate high side crash at the German circuit and at his home round in Magny-Cours caused him to lose out on valuable points and a chance to battle for his maiden Championship title. "I need to thank my MTM-RT Motorsports team for all their hard work and say that our goal from last year's win at Magny-Cours was to win the championship through fast, smart and consistent racing! I aim to move to Supersport for 2012 but am still looking at my options. I'd like to thank all of my sponsors, my family and Gary Morrison, my supporter in Australia." Sunday's race saw a fourth win of the season for Dutchman van der Mark, a result that would have given him the title on win count-back had neither Metcher nor Day scored points. View the full article

WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 20. Oktober 2011 report Geschrieben 20. Oktober 2011 WorldSBK.com provides a comprehensive round-up of the stats, facts and figures from the thirteenth and final round of the FIM Superbike World Championship at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve circuit in Portugal. • Third career pole, second straight for Jonathan Rea. His maiden pole was in Assen last year and there he won both races. In his last two poles though, in Magny-Cours and Portimao, he wasn't able to win. With a couple of thirds in Portugal, Jonathan reached Akira Yanagawa, Chris Vermeulen and Leon Haslam at the 24th all-time spot for podium finishes; • Carlos Checa finished the season with fifteen wins out of 26 races, the second all-time value for a single championship behind Doug Polen, seventeen in 1991. The Spaniard had an amazing season if we consider that in his three previous championships he was able to collect only one third of the wins he scored this year (5 out of 82 races); • Checa is the third rider in history to score at least 500 points (505) in a single season. Before him only Colin Edwards (552) and Troy Bayliss (541) did so in 2002; • Fourth win for Marco Melandri in race two, second in the championship and best rookie of the season in front of his team-mate Laverty. Marco finished the season with fifteen podium places (second all-time value for a rookie behind the seventeen scored by Biaggi and Spies) and with the peculiarity of having qualified always among the first nine; • Ducati benefited greatly from Checa's performances, finishing the championship with almost three times the number of wins they recorded last year: fifteen to six; • Third career podium for Sylvain Guintoli, who in race one also set his second fastest race lap after the one scored in Australia last year. Sylvain proved his consistency with 23 races in the points out of 26 starts this year. In the last two years the Frenchman has missed out on the points only four times (two crashes, one mechanical failure and one disqualification) out of 51 races run; • Thanks to the podium placements of Rea and Laverty, Great Britain now is the country with the highest number of podium placements in Superbike: 331 to Australia's 329. The last podium by an Australian rider was recorded by Troy Corser in Misano last year; • For the second time this year, Joan Lascorz equalled his best career result, fifth, scored in Donington and Motorland. The Spaniard rookie this year for fourteen times (more than one out of two races) was the best-classified Kawasaki rider in the races; • Best career result for Maxime Berger, seventh in race one; • Jakub Smrz managed to score points in both races: he hadn't been able to score a double points finish since Miller. Since then he has crashed seven times and recorded at least one retirement every race weekend; • A similar situation for Michel Fabrizio, who scored his first double points finish since Brno. Michel however finished the season with his lowest championship spot, twelfth. He was eleventh in 2006 and 2007, his first two seasons in Superbike. View the full article

Crescent has supplied Suzuki motorcycles from its dealership since 1963 and has competed in the British Superbike Championship since 1996. WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 21. Oktober 2011 report Geschrieben 21. Oktober 2011 With Italian Marco Melandri riding for the official BMW Motorrad Motorsport squad in 2012 alongside Leon Haslam he was given an early opportunity to the ride the S1000RR, and in fact got to ride two. There was the 2011 version, which started out with settings from Leon Haslam on it (because it was one of Leon's own machines), and then a 2012-based machine. Melandri's ambitions for his first ride on the 2011 were modest, with the championship runner-up stating of his first experience on Haslam's machine, "My target was to understand if the feeling on the bike would be the same as it feels from outside. For sure it was a reference for them but my comments are the same. For sure compared to me Leon is different, sure, but I think the riding style is the main difference. I have been working more on riding position." Melandri was up to a reasonable speed after only a short period of time on the S1000RR machinery. "I have been quite happy with the lap time today but I was thinking about lap times, so to make it without trying to find a lap time was a good feeling. Now we have to work to grow up." Marco felt at home on the bike in some regards, but needs further modifications in other regards. "Mainly for me the handlebar position has to change because I am pretty small and they did not have handlebars small enough! Just to bring me closer, to change the angle. I did not touch any traction control. For me it was more important to work on myself and the bike." View the full article
