Jed Metcher (MTM-RT Motorsports Yamaha) will head up row 2 as he fights to preserve his points lead, with Riccardo Russo (Trasimeno Yamaha) of Italy and Frenchman Stephane Egea (ASPI Yamaha) right on his tail.

Second overall after the three part contest, which determines the top 16 starting positions, was Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Superbike) from championship leader Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) and Aprilia Alitalia rider Leon Camier.

Sylvain Guintoli (Effenbert-Liberty Racing Ducati) was the top French competitor in fifth, one place up on Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team Superbike). The top two rows were completed by Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) and Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike).

parkes_news.jpgBroc Parkes scored his third pole position of the year for the Kawasaki Motocard.com team, his second on the run after Imola, in WSS qualifying today with a time of 1 minute 41.395 seconds.

Alongside the Australian on the front row of the grid will be two top Italians, Luca Scassa (Yamaha ParkinGO) in second and Friday pace-setter Massimo Roccoli (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) in third. The front row is completed by Sam Lowes (Parkalgar Honda).

Points leader Chaz Davies (Yamaha ParkinGO) will only start from the eighth slot on row 2, with James Ellison (Bogdanka PTR Honda), David Salom (Kawasaki Motocard.com) and Fabien Foret (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) ahead of him.

Frenchman Sylvain Barrier (BMW Motorrad Italia Superstock), who crashed again in the final session, will start from row 2 followed by Lorenzo Baroni (Althea Racing Ducati), Lorenzo Savadori (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) and the returning Loris Baz (Ten Kate Junior Team Honda).

vandermark_news.jpgA thrilling 12-lap race saw Jed Metcher (MTM-RT Motorsports Yamaha) move further ahead in the championship battle by taking second place behind race winner Michael Van der Mark (Ten Kate Junior).

This was the Dutch Honda rider's third win of the year and puts him third overall in the championship rankings, 25 points behind Metcher but with a better win ratio, which may be crucial at the final round in Portugal.

One-time race leader and pole man Joshua Day (Revolution Racedays Kawasaki) was third in the race and is now 19 points behind Metcher in the table, with one race remaining. Tony Covena (Nito Racing Yamaha) was fourth today, eight seconds back, with Robin Mulhauser (RRT Racing Yamaha) fifth.

183_p08_melandri_box.jpgBMW Motorrad Motorsport has confirmed its second rider for the 2012 FIM Superbike World Championship: alongside Britain's Leon Haslam (28), 29-year-old former MotoGP rider Marco Melandri (ITA) will ride the second BMW S 1000 RR for the team from Munich and Stephanskirchen.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director Bernhard Gobmeier says: 'We are really looking forward to working with Leon and Marco. I am convinced we will have arguably the strongest rider's line up in the Superbike World Championship field. We are delighted to have two riders who are both hungry and experienced for the coming season. That is the next important step for our team'. Gobmeier adds: 'Marco has performed brilliantly this season, even during difficult periods. He impressed us in his first season in the championship, and we are pleased to be able to welcome him into our team.'

_zac9387.jpgIn winning the race at Magny-Cours Danilo Petrucci (Barni Racing Ducati) did all he could to stop Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing Ducati) from being champion, but in finishing fifth Giugliano took the crown with one round to spare.

A three way fight for second in the race between team-mates Lorenzo Zanetti and Sylvain Barrier (BMW Motorrad Italia Superstock), plus Niccolò Canepa (Lazio MotorSport) ended up in that order.

With one round to go Giugliano has 171 points, Petrucci 144, Zanetti 137, Barrier 112 and Canepa 109.
