Januar 2013

Performance Technical Racing (PTR) have been so far one of the major players in the Supersport World Championship and, over the years, the racing teams in the series have provided some of the most talented names in the sport - as an example Eugene Laverty, Jules Cluzel and Sam Lowes - with strong performing machineries to successfully participate in this highly competitive series.

As SBK saw a recent change in management Simon Buckmaster, PTR Team Manager, shared his own thoughts on which direction the series should take for the future. In his ideal recipe there are, though, two modifications that have been introduced for the past season: 'Engine rules for me are good as they are" says Buckmaster "as they allow all makes to be competitive and in the case of Supersport is only really cylinder head tuning - so not an expensive part of racing. [...] We all are wary of change but as we have seen with the one bike rule, it reduced the cost of racing and made it possible for teams like us to run more riders out of one truck, allowing more teams in and rejuvenated the grid in Supersport'.

PTR will contest the upcoming World Supersport season with a completely new rider line-up, that once again will be a good mix of experience and youth: 'It will be hard to repeat the fantastic job we all did as a team with Cluzel and Lowes' he admits 'but I sincerely believe that Sheridan Morais will be a major player and young matt Davies will go from strength to strength.'

'Luca Marconi will take a big step forward in our team and David Linortner after his impressive wild card 8th place at the Nurburgring will be working hard to carry that type of performance to all the circuits this year. Nacho Calero Perez was running very well in Stock 600 last year until injury set him back and we will all be right behind him as he makes his debut in WSS. There will be no pressure on him so we will target points to start with and build form there'.
View the full article Link zu diesem Kommentar Auf anderen Seiten teilen Mehr Optionen zum Teilen...

He will contest, on-board the CBR 600 RR, his first full season in the series - set to start on February 24th at Phillip Island - with the most winning squad in the history of the competition.

The 19 years old rider from Gouda made his debut in the championship as wild card last year with the Nieuwleusen based team, an unfortunate appearance as van der Mark broke his left collarbone after a crash he had during free practice 2 at the Moscow Raceway. Despite the setback, he was able to quickly recover and to clinch a well-deserved European Superstock 600 title at Magny-Cours, after a thrilling final race of the season.

'I'm really excited about this new challenge ahead of me' said van der Mark. 'Not so long ago being in the World Supersport Championship was just a dream but here I am now, finally my time has arrived! It's a very high-contested series and I had a little taste of it last year in Moscow. It's amazing how close the competition is, so it won't be easy but at the same time I can't wait to start.'

It didn't take too much time for him to feel at ease with the WSS-spec Honda, as the Dutch rider showed an impressive speed in the Team's late November test at Jerez: 'I got a good feeling with the bike straight away during the last test, everything felt the right way and all the changes we made worked fine. I already feel the CBR 600 RR as my own, even though it has a lot more power compared to the Superstock 600 version I rode in the past two years. We played a little bit with the electronics and made some small adjustments, but I have to admit that the base setup was OK.'

Van der Mark might be a newcomer in the Supersport World Championship, but a lot of expectations are already on him. WorldSBK.com spoke to Guintoli regarding this new step in his career.

There's not much time left until your season debut with Aprilia Racing. What are your thoughts about this new challenge? How well have you already familiarized with your new crew?

'I am very excited about starting the 2013 season with Aprilia Racing. The first contact with the RSV4 Factory and crew in Jerez was fantastic and made me understand how much potential the team has. We understood each other straight the way, in English, in Italian, and sometimes just by pulling faces!'

You showed great speed during last November's test at Jerez. Did you click with the RSV4 straight away? How would you describe the bike in comparison with the ones you rode in the past?

'The bike and I clicked after only a few laps. The RSV4 Factory is the most powerful superbike I ever rode but the controls are astonishing. Basically, it's a very efficient bike. Efficiency is easier to be transformed into good lap times. The RSV4 Factory is also the most amusing bike, a lot of fun to ride!'

You started your World Superbike career on a four-cylinder 1000cc, but your best results were last year on a twin-cylinder bike. Does it make any difference which engine concept your bike relies on?

'World Superbike hosts the Championship for many different bikes and still the battles are very close and the racing very entertaining for spectators - and also for us. This means that the bikes are all performing in a very close range so it's all about a few tenths of a second, understanding well the Pirelli tyres and getting the best out of what's available to you. I think my results last year were more down to experience and also about less time spent at the hospital!'

Your career in World Superbike hasn't been so far an easy one, due to several issues you faced in the past seasons. How much of Sylvain Guintoli's skills we haven't seen yet?

'We will have to wait until next year to see...'

Apparently you won't be able to test the bike again until February. Will this affect your first part of the season or do you think you are already at a good point?

'Testing is an important part and we have plenty coming soon. It was good to have a couple of months off, spending time with my family and enjoy mountain biking in UK. I think time off is as important as time on, a sort of mental recovery. I already feel the need for speed and, by early February, this energy will be important to start with maximum motivation.'

What are your goals for the next season then?

'I want to win races and be on the podium as often as possible. As the Queen would say: If one manages this, one will lift the big trophy in the end!'
View the full article Link zu diesem Kommentar Auf anderen Seiten teilen Mehr Optionen zum Teilen...

Januar 2013

The Pedercini Team unveils its rider line-up for the upcoming racing season. The Italian based team will take part in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup with Federico Dittadi, Leandro 'Tati' Mercado and Lorenzo Savadori, while Alex Lundh and Federico Sandi are the riders chosen to race the Kawasaki Ninja ZX 10R in the 2013 eni FIM World Superbike Championship.

The team has confirmed Lundh after his participation to the last four rounds of the past World Superbike season. The Swedish rider will be joined by the 23 years old Federico Sandi from Italy. Sandi started his career in the 125cc CEV before moving up to the 125cc World Championship in 2005. He stepped up to the 250cc class in 2008, eventually switching to four-stroke bikes in 2008 by making his debut in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup and CIV Superbike. In 2011 Sandi raced once again in the Italian Championship and made 3 appearances as wild card in the Superbike World Championship. He contested last year the CIV Superbike and raced the San Marino SBK round on wild card entry.

Lorenzo Savadori and Federico Sandi will be alongside the confirmed Tati Mercado in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup. Born in Dolo (Province of Venice) on August 10th 1990, Dittadi made his racing debut in 2007 and after some years spent in the Italian Championship, first in the Stock 600 and afterwards in the Stock 1000 class, he decided to step into the international racing scene with the Pedercini Team.

Federico Sandi: "I'm very pleased of the agreement reached with the Pedercini family. We both want to get good results and their bikes are undoubtedly competitive. I'm finally taking part to a full World Superbike season and that is a good boost for me. I want to bear fruit of my previous experiences made in different series and classes and my goal is to be consistently in the top-10, even though there are a lot of factory riders and machines in Superbike. I'm happy to be testing at Jerez by the end of January and after that at Phillip Island. I need some track-time to get comfortable with both team and bike. I can't wait until the start of the season."

Federico Dittadi: "I'm truly happy of the opportunity that's been given to me by the Team Pedercini. I have to learn most of the tracks and gain some experience in the series, as it's my first season at international level. I don't want to set any specific goal, I just want to do my best. I rode the Pedercini bike last week at Jerez and I will do it again, on the same track, on the 23rd and 24th of the current month, in order to get more confidence with the bike and the team. I would like to thank my family and my sponsors who made this agreement possible."

Alex Lundh: "I'm really happy to remain in the Superbike championship with the Pedercini Team. My first experience in this fascinating and competitive championship was unforgettable and I will try my best to improve the results I got so far. Last year I immediately got acquainted with the entire Pedercini family. They are reputable professionals and we are on the same wavelength about next year's targets. I'm eager to ride my Kawasaki ZX10R in the Jerez test scheduled at the end of January and I'm determined to put a good season together".

Lucio Pedercini: "We are happy to have defined our two teams for 2013. We confirmed for the Superbike side of the garage Alex Lundh, who did well last year despite racing just the last four rounds. We're confident he will better his results by racing the entire season. We give our welcome onboard to Sandi, a young and promising rider who hasn't had the chance to show his talent so far. We're confident to put him in the right conditions to perform and to express his potential. It's the same thing for Dittadi, who will make his debut in the Stock 1000. It will be a learning year for him as he still has to learn most of the tracks, but I'm confident he will also be able to score some good results. We now have, thanks to Savadori and Mercado, one of the most competitive teams in the Superstock 1000 class. We will be testing at Jerez on the January 23rd-24th with Sandi, Salvadori and Dittadi, before shipping the bikes to Australia for the start of 2013 season."
View the full article Link zu diesem Kommentar Auf anderen Seiten teilen Mehr Optionen zum Teilen...

Leon Camier and the FIXI Crescent Suzuki Team will undergo a two-day test at Almeria next Thursday and Friday, before moving to Jerez for a further two days on track scheduled for the 22nd and 23rd of January alongside several SBK teams.

The 26 year old from Ashford is obviously keen to be back on the GSX-R 1000 and can't wait to check the improvements made by the Verwood-based team during the break: "I'm excited to get back on the bike. The guys have been working hard and hopefully made some good progress, so we will see in Jerez how we compare. The first real test will be in Australia, though, as racing is always different. It was good to have some time off the bike to relax and start again. I think it's been good the technicians to have some time in the workshop with everything they have learnt last year, so I'm hoping to start at a much higher level than we did in 2012."

He also has a clear view on what areas to focus on for further performance improvements to the Suzuki World Superbike machine: "The bikes are a little different to last year so we have a few things to try to find our direction for set up with the new 17'' wheels, as in testing at the end of last year they didn't work so well for us" he admits. "We need to improve the standard wheels we tried last November and hopefully we'll have a slightly better version coming for the tests. Speed was a big problem for us last season and even though it improved a lot we still need to be faster. An improvement in electronics for in-between conditions is also important".

Camier aims for a better start to the season compared to the one he witnessed in 2012, but at the same time he knows the track will be the only real proving ground for the work done at the team's headquarters. "I think we will start a lot stronger this year, the guys have made some good improvements and are happy with how things are at the work shop so hopefully this will translate to performance on the track, but we will see very soon."
View the full article Link zu diesem Kommentar Auf anderen Seiten teilen Mehr Optionen zum Teilen...
